Lighthouses

The surviving lighthouses along the Oregon Coast link the visitor with its maritime past. Built along cliffs, estuaries, and prominent lookouts, most of these lighthouses were established by the U.S. Lighthouse Board between 1870 and 1896. Once maintained by keepers of the light, these lighthouses were either automated in 1960s or have been decommissioned. All nine remaining lighthouses are listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Available for tours, those lighthouse with regularly scheduled ones are Heceta Head, Cape Blanco, Yaquina Bay and Yaquina Head. Tours of the Cape Meares and Coquille River lighthouses have public exhibit areas and tours may be scheduled upon request.

For more detailed information about lighthouses, including information regarding tours, contact the State Parks Information Center at 1-800-551-6949.
