Southwest of Coos Bay on Cape Arago Highway is the quaint fishing village of Charleston, known for its safe harbor, charter boat services, clamming, and whale watching. This fishing village is headquarters for sport and commercial fishing out of Coos Bay with charter boats, lodging, restaurants, shopping, and a public boat ramp. South Slough National Estuarine Research Reserve is located a few miles from town off Seven Devils Road.
